1. South West Coast Path, Cornwall

The South West Coast Path is one of England’s national treasures, so of course it had to make our list! It stretches its way for 630 miles along breathtaking coastline, from Minehead in Somerset to Poole Harbour in Dorset.

Look out for birds, beautiful wildflowers, and basking sharks and dolphins in the water as you walk. This has to be one of the most beautiful, scenic walks in England.

Campers & Kit Top Tip: Check out this handy Distance Calculator from the charity South West Coast Path - it will help you plan your routes.

2. Scafell Pike, Cumbria

Scafell Pike is one of the three mountains in the national three peaks challenge [the other two being Ben Nevis and Snowdon.]. This one has made our list because it is the tallest mountain in England - so when you reach the top it is quite the achievement

Located in the Lake District, there are three choices to reach the 977 metre-high summit, as outlined here. The shortest route is 3 hours, but bear in mind this one is pretty much uphill - be prepared to get the heart pumping. It will be worth it when you reach the top though!

Campers & Kit Top Tip: There’s no cafe or toilets at the summit, so bear this in mind for doing your business and for snacks - be prepared!

3. South Downs Way, Hampshire to East Sussex

The South Downs Way runs entirely within the new South Downs National Park. The trail offers something for everyone as it has a varied landscape of chalk rivers, chalk grasslands, countryside, beautiful woodland, and dramatic white cliffs that look over the English Channel. It takes around eight days to hike the entire route, or you can choose shorter walks to suit your adventures.

Campers & Kit Top Tip: There are some very pretty pubs on this route, so if you’re the kind of hiker that likes a pit stop beverage, this ones for you!

4. West Highland Way, Glasgow to the Highlands

Scotland is another level of beauty, and a fantastic place to take the campervan for a road trip. The West Highland Way walking trail runs for 152km through the Southern and Western Highlands of Scotland, from Glasgow to Fort William.  The whole route can take about a week to complete, but there are small sections for shorter hikes.

You will enjoy varied terrain, including forest tracks, twisty paths over moorland, and trails through gorgeous fields - this constantly changing Highland scene is what it's all about on this hike!

Campers & Kit Top Tip: If you finish the trek [or do a shorter part of the hike towards the end], you will experience the special moment of seeing the bulky form of Ben Nevis appear as you drop into Glen Nevis.

5. The Yorkshire Dales, Yorkshire

We’ve added this to our list because there are so many spectacular walks for all abilities, and the scenery is one of England’s quintessential outdoor landscapes.  You will enjoy magnificent limestone pavements, rare flowers, caves, crags, cliffs, gorges, rivers, scenic valleys, and more!

There is also one particular hike that is great for those that want a challenge but don’t have much time - you can tick off the iconic Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge! This hike takes in the three highest mountains in the area, so be prepared for it to take approximately 14 hours due to steep climbs and the long distances between the peaks.

Campers & Kit Top Tip: There are some beautiful waterfalls in the Yorkshire Dales, so if this is your cup of tea, plan your routes around them. Name a better way to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life than with the sound of cascading water.
